"Could well inspire conversations--and arguments--that deepen and complicate the crucial moral and ethical issues that Singer presents."--Kirkus"An accessible introduction to the work of a philosopher who would not regard being described as 'accessible' as an insult. In a fall that will be shaped by a political contest in many ways detached from genuinely pressing moral issues, it might also serve as a refreshingly complex source of ethical questioning."--Talya Zax, Forward"Singer demonstrates how to write pungently and succinctly about moral philosophy."--Daniel Johnson, Standpoint. JDHB said Well worth reading!. I really enjoyed reading this book. It's a collection of short essays by Singer, each covering a different moral issue. I may not agree with every one of his arguments, but I enjoyed reading them and and it certainly did open my eyes on numerous topics. This book gives you something to think about, as well as to have conversations about. Well worth reading!. I really enjoyed this book I really enjoyed this book. I'm nothing more then an armchair philosopher, and I happen to enjoy coming back to ethics fairly often. The thing that I like most about this text is that they are all essays that are all three pages long. So you can easily pick up the books, read a few essays and come back to it later. It is nice, especially in the world of philosophy, to have a point of view, pointed out an discussed in a few short pages. There are more then enough books on ethics alone, that you labor threw hundreds of pages to get an explanation that you don't agree with, don't follow, or just don't care. Its a nice change of pace. If you are . "Disappointing" according to Antonio Vives. Maybe it is a problem of expectations based on the description of the book and the prestige of the author as a moral philosopher, but the book is very disappointing. It is collection of short essays, classified by supposedly common topics, but it is in fact a collection of very varied essays, many of which are rather dated and almost irrelevant today. It looks like the author wanted to take advantage of written articles (mostly in Project Sindicate) to get more millage out of them. But the real disappointment comes on the actual articles, very few of which deal with ethical and moral issues. And while one may disagree with the authors ideas

In addition, he explores, in an easily accessible form, some of the deepest philosophical questions, such as whether anything really matters and what is the value of the pale blue dot that is our planet. He is also one of its most controversial. The collection also includes some more personal reflections, like Singer's thoughts on one of his favorite activities, surfing, and an unusual suggestion for starting a family conversation over a holiday feast.Provocative and original, these essays will challenge--and possibly change--your beliefs about a wide range of real-world ethical questions.. Now, in Ethics in the Real World, Singer shows that he is also a master at dissecting important current events in a few hundred words. In this book of brief essays, he applies his controversial ways of thinking to issues like climate change, extreme poverty, animals, abortion, euthanasia, human genetic selection, sports doping, the sale of kidneys, the ethics of high-priced art, and ways of increasing happiness. Singer asks whether chimpanzees are people, smoking should be outlawed, or consensual sex between adult siblings should be decriminalized, and he reiterates his case aga
