Read in One Sitting I don't want to give too much away, but even knowing where it was heading, I was totally absorbed by the chilling portrait of David Federman-- till I reached the point where I realized I'd had not the slightest idea where it was heading! I was astonished and delighted, but there was more to the journey, and the chill returned with a vengeance. To put it simply, it's the first novel I've read in decades without putting it down once I started. My back and neck are still sore, but small price to pay.. Well done I usually avoid books written by, for, and about Ivy Leagers, and was also hesitant about the use of second-person POV. I shouldn't have worried Teddy Wayne really pulls it off, with a chilling, believable narrator and the woman he pursues. Lots of dark, knowing comedy about the state of life on a highly competitive college campus, too. I'll be reading other Wayne books.. "Middlebrow novel with Harvard settings gets a D" according to Always Reading. So predictable in plot and pretentious in style. This is the first Teddy Wayne novel I've read and I won't read another. Widely reviewed as an academic novel, Loner focuses almost entirely on, and in, the shallowly entitled and amoral mind of David Federman--or, in English, David Featherweight. The female characters have no weight at all.

It is a stunning and timely literary achievement from one of the rising stars of American fiction..
