"An in-depth analysis of a bizarre series of crimes" according to Israel Drazin. This is a thoughtful psychological thriller by the author of two prior best-sellers. Young boys and girls are murdered and their bodies are displayed in a bizarre ritualistic manner, but the purpose and meaning of the ritual, why youngsters are chosen for it, what distinguishes them from other people of their age and those who are younger and older, why it was necessary to kill them, how the youths are related to each other and their killer is obscure. An expert in psychology and in trace evidence are called in to address the issues. The plot is intense, fascinating, interesting, and attention g. "Really good mystery" according to Mystery_reader. I received Surrender, New York the day it came out, I preordered it after reading Michael Connolly's review in the New York Times. I'm not sure why some of the reviews here are critical of the length, it's not longer than any other recent mysteries I've read lately.I really enjoyed Surrender, New York. It feels similar to The Alienist-- meaning you get drawn into it right away, and before you know it you're completely wrapped up in the book. The story is well paced, and the stuff about forensic science is terrifying! That's as much as I can say without spoilersI really enjoyed reading it.. "Not as absorbing as I had hoped" according to bob. I enjoyed this book, but not nearly as much as Carr's earlier Kreizler series books "The Alienist" and "Angel of Darkness". His earlier two Kreizler books took place in the distant past. In the earlier books, the reader has to fill in much more of the social and historical context, simply because the reader could not have been present when the stories took

Senior law enforcement officials are quick to blame a serial killer, yet their efforts to apprehend this criminal are peculiarly ineffective.Meanwhile, in the county's small town of Surrender, Trajan Jones, a psychological profiler (and the world's leading expert on the life and work of one Dr. Like The AlienistSurrender, New York brings to life the grim underbelly of a prosperous nation - and those most vulnerable to its failings. . Laszlo Kreizler), and Michael Li, a trace evidence expert, once famed advisors to the New York City Police Department, teach online courses in profiling and forensic science from Jones's fami

It is hard to resist a character with such eloquent charm and a story with such deep meaning.”—Michael Connelly, The New York Times Book Review (cover review)“A long-awaited return.”O: The Oprah Magazine“A superb mystery that moves at a swift and often terrifying pace. Carr’s many fans will find this well worth the wait.”Kirkus Reviews.  Surrender, New Yorkallows Carr to deploy his indisputable gift for the gothic and the macabre, and the pursuit is suspenseful and believa
