Fortunately, THE AFFAIR flashes back to his army career, where he faces hi. "How Reacher became the nomadic hero that we love" according to Jessica Dennis. I loved this book! As a rule, I will read anything that Lee Child writes, anything that Lee Child recommends, and anything that Lee Child might even use as a coaster- he's just that good. This book is probably my favorite of his (It's just SO hard to pick one). Lee introduces us to Jack Reacher when he was still an MP. Reacher is sent on a mission to help find a murderer in a small town, and potentially cover up any army scandal. Lee, as always fills the book with visually pleasin. A little disappointed in this one This is the 16th book in the series in publication order. However, it is the background story of how and why Reacher left the Army. Many people recommended reading this one first but I always prefer to read in publication order. I'm especially glad I did that on this series. I think if I had read The Affair first I may have passed on the series altogether which would have been a shame since all the others have been such good reads. For me, this book's story line just wasn't up to
