Freaky Masterpiece I don't write many reviews for books on Amazon, however, I felt that I needed to offer my opinion for anyone trying to decide whether to read this book. I'm a huge Stephen King fan, first. I don't typically read horror novels unless they're written by him. I certainly don't go out seeking them unless Stephen King recommended it.This book, about modern-day vampires, is an absolute fright-fest. When I say "modern day", I certainly. The Professor said The Stress of Reading The Strain. I consider Guillermo del Toro a visionary genius, so it was a no-brainer for me to pick this book up the day of release. On a visceral level, it certainly doesn't disappoint. The imagery crafted by del Toro and his co-conspirator Chuck Hogan is memorable and iconic. This book, as should be no surprise, would make a great movie. Perhaps someday del Toro himself will do the job.Why not five stars? The writing is a tad breathless a. "Not original, but an entertaining novelized screenplay" according to C. W. Smith. Although I dont think there are any truly orinal aspects to this story, I found it to be an entertaining vampire story. It's a very visual book, and dialog dependent. By that I mean it reads like a novelized version of a screenplay. That's not a criticism per se, Guillermo Del Toro is a movie guy so he thinks in terms of visual mediums.
