The caricaturelike protagonists, particularly the childlike adult characters, add to the absurdity of the book, and the evolving relationship between the Miles and Niles is pure fun. The problem is, that role has already been taken by a troublemaker who is even better than Miles, Niles Sparks, masquerading as a do-gooder. Niles respects Miles' skills and suggests they join forces as The Terrible Two. Coauthors and friends Barnett and John have created a fast paced, laugh-out-loud novel sure to appeal to those who appreciate a good prank and have a sense of justice. Cornell's varied graphics perfectly capture the humorous tone and add their own comic appeal. Miles Murphy has moved to a new town and a new school, but he doesn't want to reinvent himself. Initially disinterested, Miles ultimately realizes he is no match for Niles, and they work together to pull off the ultimate prank and develop a close friendship. Good chapter book for rising second grade boy Sunshine State book. We are getting a head start for next school year and the third grade boy I am reading with is enjoying the plot and characters so far. The chapters are short do he is feeling accomplished as he moves along to chapter five early in the book. He has remained engaged, but occasionally becomes discouraged by the amount of text on each page.. Entertaining and funny! I loved the way this book dealt with the feelings a "new kid" has when everything in their life changes. The characters are quirky and fun to get to know. Miles has to swallow some pride, but the friendship he gains is worth it.. The Terrible Two is Great! If you like pranks, or you like reading about pranks, this book is for you! I like pranks and I loved this book. The Terrible Two makes reading feel fun. Its easily deserves 5 stars!!! -- J.T. 10 years old.
