I've thoroughly enjoyed his earlier work Robert Walker I read Alan Taylor perhaps differently than a couple of these reviewers. I've thoroughly enjoyed his earlier work, and yes, there does appear to be some re-cycling of information from earlier work. But this does not take away from what I read as the intent and focus of the work. I read this text as an extended essay - an attempt to explain some of the root factors that contribute to the nation we inhabit today. The book certainly disinfects the propaganda most of us were taught in high schools and to some extent in universities. The 2016 race for president makes ev. "A Different View Back" according to Christian Schlect. A book that provokes serious thought about our nation's critical formative years. Dr. Taylor tends to see the negative and portray the events of the day as the triumph of the white-male colonial elites, who, largely lived in the port cities and were interested in money and power, over the poor, the farmers, Native Americans, and, of course, the slaves. This history undoubtedly helps one understand the antecedents of the racial problems that still simmer in today's society.I found interesting discussions of the interplay of the three major European empires of the da. but involving people who want just to be left alone to pursue their happiness make us rethink the stakes of the Revolution for .
