Functional Genomics, a branch of Bioinformatics, is essentially an interdisciplinary subject in which Biologists, Statisticians and Computer experts interact to analyze the microarray data. This book caters to the needs of all the three disciplines. For Statisticians and Computer scientists, it explains basics of biology relevant to microarray experiment. For Biologists and Computer scientists, it explains concepts of statistics and statistical inference. For Biologists and Statisticians, it provides annotated R programs to analyze microarray data. Thus, the book will be useful to scientists from all the three disciplines, with not much knowledge of other disciplines, to analyze microarray data and interpret the results.

Michael R. Chernick said Good for statisticians and biological researcher. This book provides elementary introductions to genetics and microarrays and also to basic statistical methods including hypothesis testing, regression and ANCOVA, experimental design and multivariate techniques such as clustering and principal component analysis. Since the treatment of the genetics is simple and from first principles it is easy for the statistician to digest and appreciate how statistics can be valuable in the study of micro-array data. Scaling is also important in the preprocessing of the microarray da. Dr. A. Vikram said Good but very basic. This is a good introductory book especially if you are looking for gain some basic knowledge about statistics and genetics. But does not provide a good background in either. So if you are looking for a little advanced information, look elsewhere.I bought this book to learn about the "R" codes for statistical analysis of microarray data, instead the authors provide basic information about the statistics and genetics. The book did not provide me about the "R" tools and techniques which will be useful in learning microarra. well written book on gene expression Excellent introduction to microarray theory and analysis. recommended for people who do not have extensive background in bioinformatics. Well written text and excellent explanations
