Lots of detail in the book, no backstory I'm only partially into reading this book, but I feel that I have to comment. I've seen the movie, and even in the first few chapters the book offers a ton of extra details. Things that move quickly in the movie are explained in far greater detail, even if we hear little of what the characters think. So far I have no problem with the writing. What there is little to none of is backstory. I assume that this is a decision that was made at the top. It seems that the powers that be want the backstory to either be developed in future movies, or told in . So much better than the movie! And that's saying something. Much better than the movie was! And that's saying quite a bit! I liked the movie very much but there were several areas in it which suffered due to important aspects being glossed over or very badly implemented in the movie. For example the book details how Poe survived on Tatooine, which is very badly glossed over in the movie. But the best part is they gave a MUCH better explanation for how the planet/deathstar worked in the book. I really wish they'd used that in the movie because the "it absorbs a star to power the gun" explanation was just fla. This Beautiful Novelization Adds Depth With the novel adaptation of The Force Awakens, Alan Dean Foster has returned to the position he was the first to inhabit: Star Wars author.Yes, Foster not only ghosts-wrote the original Novelization of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, but also the first Expanded Universe novel, Splinter of the Mid's Eye.Now, decades later, Foster adds much-needed depth to the fast-paced story reviving the cinematic world of the galaxy Far, Far Away. The internal reveries of the characters, combined with additional details missing from the final edit of the film re

The novel goes beyond simply giving us insight into the characters’ thoughts, with plenty of additional scenes painting a broader picture of the galaxy.”—New York Daily News  “Fast-moving, atmospheric and raises goose-bumps at just the right moments. “Like all the best novelizations, Alan Dean Foster’s adaptation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens enriches the movie experience. No question. Foster not only evokes entire onscreen worlds he also gives us glimpses of an even more vast, unseen universe.”The Washington Post  “Was my experience of the film enriched by the book? Yes. Foster has written a book that captures the spirit of the film, while presenting additional information that helps answer some of the questions that linger.”Coffee with KenobiFrom the Hardcover edition..
