Unless they have been written. In Canaan, your book is your truth and your identity, and Nadia knows exactly who hasn't written the truth. Nadia lives in the city of Canaan, where life is safe and structured, hemmed in by white stone walls and no memory of what came before. As the anarchy of the Forgetting approaches, Nadia and Gray must stop an unseen enemy that threatens both their city and their own existence -- before the people can forget the truth. Even your crimes. Because Nadia is the only person in Canaan who has never forgotten. But when Nadia begins to use her memories to solve the mysteries of Canaan, she discovers truths about herself and Gray, the handsome glassblower, that will change her world forever. What isn't written, isn't remembered. And before Gray can forget her.. But every twelve years the city descends into the bloody chaos of the Forgetting, a day of no remorse, when each person's memories -- of parents, children, love, life, and self -- are lost

If it were not for the books in which inhabitants are required by law to record the events of their lives, they would have no way of knowing what happened before the Forgetting, or even of knowing their names or who their families are. Why is the supposedly benevolent head of the Council, Janis, having some people's houses ransacked? What happens when people write lies in their books, or their books are stolen? The glassblower's handsome son, Gray, says he wants to help Nadia, but can she trust him? When Nadia searches for the truth, it is more shocking than anything she could have imagined. Nadia is different. V

I have read a lot of good books (and bad) but rarely have I been totally engrossed in one that I forgot where I was -- until I read this book. The plot, characters, suspense kept me so focused I was sad it had to endwonder if the writer would do a follow-up -- maybe not, since the ending was pretty special. My review is 5-stars times 10! Loved it! It's pricey, but well worth it!. Highly recommended! Wow! What a GORGEOUS premise: Every 12 years, the people of this society lose all their memories. The lucky ones have the books in which they'd noted down all the daily happenings of their lives before The Forgetting. For some, there is truth in the books. For many, the truth is likely tainted, to make the person they reconstruct from the books' entries someone a little better, kinder, more good. Then there are those who come to without any books t
