"A nice Bible." according to Rain. This Jewish Study Bible is filled with tons of informations, and does rely heavily on the documentary hypothesis, which may offend some. If you are looking for more spiritual/orthodox commentaries, I would suggest a Chumash with its notes and comments. The word study in this case points out to a scientific approach.I don't speak Hebrew (yet), so I can't tell you how accurate the translat. Nice Content, but Two Serious Flaws: Original Text Not Shown, and Printed on Flimsy Paper This book contains a number of interesting, well-written and sometimes provocative essays. The JPS translation is reasonably competent.However, the book has two very serious flaws. First is the absence of the original, mainly Hebrew but partially Aramaic, text. If you want to critically study the translation, you have to have a second book at your side so that you can compare the transla. and recommended by nearly every "Biblical Historical" scholar I have spoken This is an enormous document and is probably the most demanding literary undertaking I have attempted. One must understand it is not a truly unbiased critical examination. From what I have ascertained as I progress is it sometimes assumes a "Catholic" perspective of Judaism.
